Why is this study important?

There is a need for additional forms of progesterone-only contraceptives for women who cannot use estrogen or choose not to. Progesterone-only contraceptives may provide an additional option for those who may not use estrogen-containing contraceptives, such as those who have obesity, are breastfeeding, or are at risk of developing blood clots.

A patch is an alternative for women who cannot or prefer not to take medicine by mouth daily. A patch is also less invasive than other forms of contraceptives such as injections, implants, or intrauterine devices.
